Villa San Bartolomeo
Villa San Bartolomeo. The Villa is located in the Chianti hills, on a ridge that overlooks a valley rich with history. The Villa lies in the small village of Palazzuolo and is surrounded by olive groves, flowering bushes and fields of Mediterranean plants.
The Villa originally belonged to the noble Sernigi family, who were rich merchants and patrons of the great 15th century artists. The Villa later passed into the hands of the Naldini del Riccio family. During the 18th century the residence degenerated into an ordinary farmhouse. At the end of the 1950’s the house was purchased by the Corti Family who restored the Villa to its original splendour. The restoration not only maintained the original structural elements of the Villa but also enhanced the natural harmony that ties this structure to the Tuscan countryside. All the Villa’s arches, windows and doorways are true to the original structure of the house.
Depending on your group size, guests can also choose to rent the Guesthouse of the Villa. The Guesthouse is found just a few metres from the main Villa, and it can accommodate up to 6 additional people.
The Villa has a large swimming pool and courtyards which are ideal for relaxing outside in the fresh country air. Not far away there are tennis courts and horse riding stables. There are also trekking paths and mountain bikes for those who want to explore the beautiful surrounding scenery.
The large surrounding garden is equipped with chairs for relaxing among this serene atmosphere. At the edge of the garden there is a little wood with a large marble table, lighting and a small kitchen. There are also hammocks under the shady trees. There is a patio hedged with laurel and furnished with comfortable armchairs and a gazebo with a 4 metre long table where up to 20 people can eat.
There is a large parking area at guests' disposal.
Next to the Villa is the private pool. It is completely enclosed by a gate that can be locked. The pool is in a discreet position, thanks to the climbing rose bushes and olive groves which surround it. The pool area is equipped with chairs, sun beds, table and a shower. There is a changing room at the pool that has a refrigerator for keeping drinks cool.
The rooms are very spacious and have high, wood-beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and arched windows and doorways. The windows look out on the beautiful views surrounding the Villa. There are 7 bedrooms, 6 of which are furnished with antiques. The 7th bedroom has modern furnishings and is suitable for children or for a babysitter. All the bedrooms look out onto the surrounding countryside or garden and have their own bathroom. The bathrooms have been completely restored and fitted with modern furnishings.
Ground floor: On the ground floor there is a large entryway, with the Villa’s original doorway and two antique benches, which can be used as a ground-floor living room, 2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom with bathtub, 1 bathroom with shower.
Mezzanine: Office with Internet connection, telephone and fax.
Upper floor: 4 double bedrooms, 1 single bedroom (an extra bed can be added on request), 5 bathrooms with shower, 2 lounges with comfortable couches and satellite TV (one of the lounges has a large stone fireplace).
Next to the Villa is the lovely Guesthouse. It is on 2 levels. The ground floor has a living room with fireplace, dining room, kitchen corner, closed veranda, and small outdoor garden area. On the upper floor are 2 double bedrooms that can become triple bedrooms, and a bathroom with a shower.
The large, fully-equipped kitchen is furnished to professional standards (from the restaurant-style oven to the dishwasher), and has a spacious service room with washing machine and pantry. There are various antique cupboards containing crockery with the Sernigi Family's coat of arms.
All cooking and dining equipment: refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave.
All linens (bed, bath, and kitchen) are included. An additional change of sheets can be requested for € 5 per bed or a change of towels for € 5 per person.
